Let’s begin with making a list of things you can implement that will impact the successful marketing of your business. A complete and full business analysis can be found in ourĀ Effective Business Analysis.

1. Are you too involved in personnel, the sales process or customer service to have the time needed to market your business effectively?

2. When you have openings in your schedule do you work hard to fill them or ā€œget other stuff done?ā€

3. Do you have at least one employee who does full-time marketing of your business?

4. Do you or someone else in your business meet with vendors, business associates, business networking groups or associations on a REGULAR basis?

6. Do you meet with vendors, business associates or networking groups and associations only when the numbers have sharply dropped?

7. Do you only visit vendors who refer or do you go out and meet new contacts?

8. How do you make your customer feedback, product or service results and ratings BROADLY known?

9. Do you find your website and marketing materials have little impact on your referrals?

10.Do current and past clients and customers refer to your business regularly?

11.How DO you get your current and past clients and customers to refer?

12.Do you have a client or customer referral game in place internally and/or with your existing clients and customers?

13.Do you have a customer service hotline where people can call and ask questions?

14.Do you offer value added products or services?

15.Do you send out monthly newsletters or other promotional materials to existing clients or customers?

16.Do you send anything regularly to your vendors and business associates who could be referring business to you?

17.Once you get a new customer, vendor or business associate referring, do you DO anything through PR or Marketing actions to strengthen that relationship so they will refer more?

*Remember that doing a good job with your client or customers is not “marketing.”

18.What are your company, product or service BROADLY known for solving?

*If the answer does not immediately come to YOU it is likely your potential referring contacts donā€™t know either.
